artwork inquiry artwork inquiry artwork inquiry My interest in art began in my childhood. Although I have always dabbled in art, my passion for art was solidified during the year I spent learning basic drawing and painting skills from Andrea Baker, an art teacher at my junior high school. During high school and college (where I pursued a science degree), art took a back seat to my studies. After graduation from college, I reentered the art field and I began to study oil painting seriously when I was in my early twenties. Over the years, I have had the good fortune to study under a number of great oil painters, including Daniel Edmondson, Bruce Becker, Dan Gorman, and Barton Henderson. Their guidance has greatly influenced my painting style and has contributed to my success as an oil painter. My paintings are currently in collections in the northeastern United States, Canada, and Germany. I have recently exhibited my paintings at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in Reading, PA and at the Yocum Institute for Arts Education in Wyomissing, PA. My paintings have been auctioned over the past several years for fund raising events for the Humane Society of Berks County, the American Diabetes Association, St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation, St Ignatius Loyola School, and the Berks County Medical Society Fundraiser.
My painting style can be described as impressionistic. My paintings are representational but not overworked with detail. Particularly with my landscapes, I prefer to paint quickly, to get the scene represented as quickly and freshly as possible. Although I may attempt to refine my paintings after the initial painting has dried, I like freshness of an alla prima method. I am an avid believer in continuing education and often try new techniques. I continue to study with as many artists as I can and have an extensive library of books and DVDís. Continued experimentation keeps the oil painting experience exciting and fulfilling.
